Jiayi Zhang, English name is Tom, which he named himself from his favorite animation “Tom and Jerry . Jiayi is currently a graduate student at SCAD, as well as a freelance illustrator. He is keen on collecting ideas from daily life, from big events to tiny objects. Everything could be his source of inspiration if it has unique features. Accordingly, he claims himself as an observer of reality because he believes the job of illustrator is expressing illustration through their own way. He strongly believes that humans cannot create artwork away from reality, in other words, the things we have not seen with our own eyes are unable to be generated. That is also his core of illustration. Furthermore, he is a quiet person who always tries to avoid crowded and noisy situations. Therefore, places like libraries, river bunk, museum are sorted as his cup of tea. However, he has pretty vigorous “ inside world”, which means he would always stay creative and fantastic as an artist.
